Brazil posts best November auto sales since 2014 Americas / Flat Products

Brazil’s automotive industry, the second largest steel-consuming sector in the country, reported increased sales last month. Production and sales also increased over the first eleven months, bringing optimism to industry participants to finish the year on a positive note. Expectations for the next year are also optimistic.

Brazilian automotive industry produced 227,455 vehicles in November, down by 7.1% year-on-year, according to National Automakers Association Anfavea. Yet, year-to- date production increased by 2.7% to 2.77 million units. For full year 2029, Anfavea expects production to be 2% higher compared to 2018.

New car registrations in November rose by 4.9% to 242,310 units y-o-y. “It was the best month of November since 2014,”  Anfavea noted. In    January-November,sales reached 2.53 million vehicles, up by 8.3% y-o-y. Commenting on the industry results, Luiz Carlos Moraes, Anfavea president, noted that the domestic market is expected to rise by 9% 2019.

“In the final balance, we will have the third straight year of recovery, with even better expectations for 2020,”  he  mentioned,

exports, however, continued to fall, mainly due to the Argentine crisis, the main destination for Brazilian production. external shipments fell by 7.9% to 31,734 units y-o-y in November and by 33.2% to 399,197 units since the start of the year, Metal expert learnt. Moraes mentioned that the Brazilian government is working to close a  trade  exchange  agreement  with Paraguay.
